Hello Hello!
I skipped the November & December update, oops ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ it happens. But also January is nearing to an end so I might as well give you an update on how January went as well!
But in regards to what happened in November, I finally became a Yelp Elite on Nov 18th yaaaaay. I even had the chance to go to my first Yelp Elite event in December after one of my finals. Not gonna lie, it was lowkey awkward at first since depending on the event, you can bring people or not. I ended up going alone to Shawarma Guys and it was soooo awk when I got there cuz I had no clue what to do. I legit showed up and just stood there and the lady asked me if I was waiting for someone and I was like “Uh, no I’m actually here for the Yelp Elite event” LOL.

She ended up taking my order and not gonna lie, it was weird. Cuz Shawarma Guys is a food truck and I’ve had food from food trucks before, but there have never been tables outside of them for customers to sit at. It was super sunny and I felt like I was going blind so I asked the lady at the table with shade if I could sit with her and she was totally cool with that. The lady who I sat with and I talked and she was SOO nice. She even offered me her food that she had ordered but I politely declined since I was getting my own food anyways. I was told by her that there are usually umbrellas but for whatever reason there weren’t any on the day that I had showed up. Anyways, I basically sat and chatted with this woman for the duration that I ate and it was pretty cool. I always enjoy talking to strangers (sounds creepy, I know). But there is a lot to learn from people around you if you just choose to speak to them for a few minutes. I do remember the woman suggesting to me to try
Light Bulb Coffee in La Mesa and their pistachio latte, so hopefully I get the chance to do so soon!
Additionally in December, the fall semester ended so I finally had time to relax from school for about 5 weeks which was great. During this time I tried yoga for the first time, worked, ate out (a lot, check my
Instagram for proof), tried making new recipes (I made Moroccan couscous for the first time and it was deeeelisssh!), explored San Diego, and began watching the show "Our Planet". I did a lot of other stuff during the break which I don't mention here but you can scroll all the way down to the end to see photos of what I did!

I have no clue what kind of plant this is, probably a succulent of some sort but I keep seeing them in La Jolla Cove and they're gorgeous!!! |
Trying yoga for the first time was definitely nerve racking since I had no clue as to what was going on. But over the few times I've gone, I really have gotten to see the benefits of de-stressing and relaxing. I do believe that it's really important for people to get into a daily routine to escape from life and take some time for yourself. Overworking and constantly stressing isn't going to do anyone well and will just cause a myriad health issues in the long run. I'm not the most committed person to working out, but
ClassPass has definitely made it easier to work out. I can pretty much work out at any yoga, cycling, pilates, boxing, etc. studio in San Diego (or outside of SD if I'm traveling) at any time without commitment to a membership to that place. You basically pay for a certain amount of credits monthly and pick what activity you want to do, register for that activity with your credits, and just go! It is free for the first two weeks and you can get $40 off your first month if you choose to continue. If you're interested in trying ClassPass, click
here to use my referral code. It's really easy to cancel and it can cost between $40-$100 a month depending on which credit plan you go with. If you have any questions feel free to shoot me an email at savoringwithsarah@gmail.com.

Restorative Yoga at The Wellness Lounge.
Extremely Relaxing!!! They do yoga classes & massages. |
As for the show "Our Planet" it was interesting to learn about the world around us, and especially since I had just finished taking an ecology class in the fall semester, I was able to connect it to knowledge I had previously learned. See, so don't say you take useless classes. All knowledge will benefit you one day whether you like it or not.

Sunflower Brittle! This was as it was cooling down and before breaking it into pieces. |
For recipes I tried making Moroccan couscous which was absolutely delicious. I'm actually mad at myself for not taking a photo. But basically it contained lots of fresh veggies (carrots, Mexican squash, turnips, peppers, onions) and few spices (which is odd, because I had expected it to be like 20 diff spices. But turns out you only use 4). Additionally I made sunflower brittle! Yes, not peanut brittle, sunflower brittle. I would've liked it to come out a bit thinner but I couldn't find bigger pan and I had doubled the recipe since I knew it was a treat gets eaten pretty quickly.

Sunflower brittle after it has been cooled down and broken up into individual pieces. |
I also tried making chili for the first time and it was a hit. I used
Laura in the Kitchen's recipe but I did tweak it. I used to always question my mom growing up why she wouldn't follow recipes, and here I am understanding exactly why she doesn't follow them. You just can't help it. The amazing thing about cooking is creativity and that everyone can put their own spin on it. And I feel that following the general idea of a recipe, but tweaking it just a bit, makes the dish personal to me and my heritage. Not gonna lie, I always gotta make my food have some sort of middle eastern touch to it (aka me constantly using pomegranate molasses LOL).

Turkish Kebab that I made before I popped it into the oven. One of the many new things that I tried making. This was so spicy and full of flavor!! |
I've had an espresso machine which I bought back in July but rarely used it until recently. I've been crafting my own lattes at home and it has been fun experimenting. I do have to say the
Cafe Barista by Mr.Coffee is pretty legit. As long as you have quality ingredients (freshly ground coffee beans, cinnamon, whipped cream, brown sugar, and Torani syrup from Marshalls or TJ Maxx) your drinks will taste like the ones you pay for $5+ outside for the fraction of the cost.

Latte that I made which has brown sugar, Torani vanilla syrup, cinnamon, and coconut whipped cream from Trader Joe's (which btw is delish!!). |
In the mean time I have been wanting to learn to make pickled radish that you get served at Korean BBQ and learn to make Korean BBQ at home. Once I try these two things out I'll be sure to let you guys know how it goes.
It is (hopefully) my last spring semester as an undergrad and I'm really excited yet nervous. I'm excited for the new classes I'm going to take and the new things that I'm going to learn, but also nervous since I am closer to graduation and I want to figure out what career path I want to take. I know that graduate school is in the plan, but not sure what program exactly yet. But that's the good thing about life. I can take my time, experiment, and see what is calling my heart and choose to go in that direction.

Preview of my SD Voyager Interview! |
Lastly to end on a good note, I had my first interview as a food blogger with the
SD Voyager. I'm under the San Diego's Most Inspiring Stories → UTC/La Jolla, and if you scroll down a bit you'll find my interview! Or you can just click
here to see my interview instead of searching for it yourself. It was an honor to be interviewed and I look forward to many of the opportunities to come out of my passion of being a food blogger.
Until next time friends.
